Sen. Blackburn to Newsmax: McMahon Will Put Children, Parents First

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Tuesday that Secretary of Education nominee Linda McMahon will “make certain that children, educational choice, parents’ rights” are made top priority.

On Thursday of this week, McMahon will begin her confirmation hearing in front of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. President Donald Trump has previously stated that he seeks to shut down the Department of Education and urged McMahon do such fine work she will “put herself out of a job.” Blackburn said that Democrats will “put on a show during the confirmation hearings but that they continue to be “out of step with the American people.” McMahon, who previously served as the administrator of the Small Business Administration for two years under the first Trump administration, will make certain children become “lifelong learners.”

“That is what you want. And the fact that children are being over-tested, that there is not enough personal instruction — these are things that will change when you devolve the Department of Education and send the power, the authority, and the money back to the states so that they are in charge of the education of the children in their state,” Blackburn said during an appearance on “Wake Up America.”
