The Republican Party’s gains this past election season exceeded retaking the White House and control of Congress, as the GOP also now controls 24 state legislatures in 2025 compared to just 15 for Democrats, according to The Cook Political Report.

Another 10 states are split, while one, Nebraska, is neutral.

The big wins for Republicans were flipping Michigan and earning a split in the Minnesota House, according to Cook.
