Hawaiian Electric Industries was held partially responsible for the wildfire that ravaged Maui in 2023. Newsweek reported the utility CEO got a big raise.
Newsweek said CEO Scott Seu got a 20% raise that amounted to about $1.7 million, which bumped his total salary up to $6.5 million. This, reported Newsweek, as the utility prepares to begin paying legal settlements connected to the Maui wildfire of over $1.9 billion.
The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency reported last August that recovery assistance to island residents had grown to more than $3 billion. Mauirecovers.org reported efforts to get displaced residents resettled has taken a turn this year with a new U.S. Housing and Urban Development program.
