President Joe Biden has officially had more LGBTQ people confirmed to lifetime federal judicial appointments than any other president with the confirmation of Judge Mary Kay Costello to the federal bench this week, The Hill reported.

The Senate voted 52-41 to confirm Costello, the assistant U.S. attorney in Philadelphia, to serve as a district court judge in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, making her the 12th LGBTQ judicial nominee of Biden’s to be confirmed. 

“Today is a proud day for Pennsylvania and for our country. Mary Kay Costello’s historic confirmation is a win for every American who believes our courts are stronger when they reflect the diversity of the people they serve,” Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said in a statement posted to X.
